My Mission
I am dedicated to building communities where all people can thrive. For me, a thriving community is one where we embrace our shared humanity, honor our differences, strive to understand and meet one another’s needs, and support opportunities for all people to lead fulfilling lives.
I believe that building thriving communities calls for creativity, care, courage, and a growth mindset. It requires grappling with enduring legacies of racism, classism, sexism, and other forms of systemic oppression. It asks us to make changes at multiple levels: within ourselves, our organizations, and our systems. I walk alongside my clients as they undertake this journey. At every juncture, I help them make intentional decisions about how to move forward.
I am guided by three tenets:
An experience is more powerful than an explanation. I invite my clients to begin to practice new ways of relating, learning, and making decisions during the engagement.
Change can be difficult, even when desired. I give space to explore the negative and positive emotions that emerge from change processes, and the underlying needs these emotions reflect.
Solutions are most ethical and effective when they come from those who will be most impacted by them. I listen, facilitate, advise, coach, and share my networks - but I don’t “fix” or “solve” for others. My approach guides my clients through the work they want to do, and builds ownership and accountability for its implementation.
My clients include people and organizations working in arts, culture, public space, education, and the solidarity economy. I particularly value opportunities to advance cross-sector and interdisciplinary approaches to community-building.
